Churches in Epping Parish

Coopersale: St Alban the Martyr

Coopersale Common Coopersale Epping
(01992) 575570
http://www.eppinganglicans.org.uk/Coopersale/frontpage.html

St Alban's Church is in the pretty village of Coopersale, to the east of Epping. The church is small, but the congregation is vibrant and welcoming. The traditional grassed churchyard overlooks fields and countryside.

The church was built in 1852 at the bequest of Miss Archer-Houblon, who also provided the parish with a school and the substantial vicarage, now privately owned. The church maintains its strong links with the church primary school, hosting the school carol service, other services throughout the year and being linked further by the church school governors.

The original school, the current Parish Rooms, is used as a church meeting room and is available to hire. There are toilets and kitchen facilities in the Parish Rooms which are found across the road from the church.

There is a service every Sunday at 11:10am, which is either a communion service or an all-age lay-led worship. There is an all age Sunday School during the Parish Communion Services on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Children are catered for in the all-age service.

St Alban's Church is part of the Epping District Team Ministry and is included in many team events and services.

St Alban's Church, Coopersale only holds the most recent registers of baptisms, marriages and burials. All others are held at the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford.

We'd also like you to know that St Alban's, Coopersale is committed to Safeguarding Children, Young People, Victims/perpetrators of Domestic Abuse and Vulnerable Adults.

Epping: St John the Baptist

High Street Epping
(01992) 575570
http://www.eppinganglicans.org.uk

St John's Church is an active parish church with a congregation mostly drawn from the town of Epping and representing and including a wide cross-section of the community and different ways of expressing faith. We work with all the local schools, including the local church secondary school and have several different children's groups for different ages, including a mid-week pram service. We have good community links, acting as a concert venue and hosting an annual Art Exhibition and Christmas Tree and Crib Festival as well as a range of church services.

There are regular services on Sundays and midweek services at 9am Wednesdays (Common Worship) and 12pm on Thursdays (BCP). Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer is said in church Monday - Thursday.   St John's Church also serves the community with baptisms, weddings and funerals.

The organ is one of the finest to be found in a parish church and the current director of music runs several other choirs as well as the church choir. Children are welcomed into the choir and follow the RSCM's Voice for Life scheme. Our monthly informal lay-led all-age worship services are accompanied by an instrumental group.

There has been a place of worship on the site of the church of St John the Baptist for hundreds of years. The present church was built between 1889 and 1909 to the design of architect G.F. Bodley and has three windows and an organ case designed by Charles Eamer Kempe. Kempe was also an architect and had done a lot of work for Ernest Wythes, the owner of nearby Copped Hall - who largely funded the building work for St John's.

The church is open from around 9am to 5pm most weekdays and 10am to 4pm most Saturdays for people to enjoy the tranquility, light candles, pray and add prayers to the board. We offer coffee in the church on Monday,  market day, alongside a very popular second-hand bookstall raising money for church funds.

St John's is part of the Epping District Team Ministry.

St John's Church only holds the most recent registers of baptisms and marriages. There are no records of burials as there is no graveyard. All others are held at the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford.

We'd also like you to know that St John's, Epping is committed to Safeguarding Children, Young People, Victims/perpetrators of Domestic Abuse and Vulnerable Adults.
